Recession Project
Work
The Lincolnshire County Homelessness Strategy Group, on 1st June 2010 launched a three month high impact Recession Awareness Campaign, to target Lincolnshire residents struggling to keep up with their mortgage payments, and to raise awareness of the services that the District Councils can provide to help people at risk of losing their home and facing repossession.
In 2009 Lincolnshire had 1,215 repossessions, this is a reduction of over 30% on the previous year. What the figures don’t show is the human element and the associated anguish. Lincolnshire housing advice teams are still seeing people in mortgage difficulty. The improvement, due to low interest rates and relatively stable employment have helped prevent new households falling into difficulty but those with entrenched debt problems are continuing to have difficulty in fulfilling mortgage commitments and servicing other debt and are therefore vulnerable to repossession.
The aim of the campaign is to promote that help is available, and the quicker they act the better their chance of avoiding repossession.
The campaign includes different large scale delivery methods, radio advertising, a radio interview, local press releases and posters. Central to the campaign is a freephone recession line to encourage desperate people to get in contact with their local housing department.
